(Chapter 8 Pg. 215) "We believe that there is some kind of conspiracy, some kind of secret organization working against the Party, and that you are involved in it. We want to join it and work for it. We are enemies of the Party. We disbelieve in the principles of Ingsoc. We are thought-criminals. We are also adulterers. I tell you this because we want to put ourselves at your mercy. If you want us to incriminate ourselves in any other way, we are ready."
This quote from Winston showed how much he wants to rebel. He is willing to put himself and Julia more at risk just to keep rebelling against the Party. I think that this shows how much Winston has grown in courage. Winston now is stating that he is rebelling against the Party to someone that he doesn't even know for sure is against the Party. However, Winston knows for sure that he is against the Party. He stated all of his crimes committed even though nobody asked him to do that. This makes me wonder if Winston takes pride in stating aloud that he and Julia committed all of those crimes. I think Julia plays a big role in influencing him to make decisions. Before Julia came into his life, he would have only speculated and imagined taking this action. Now with Julia, he will do almost anything that he wants. I feel that Julia likes influencing him to make these crazy and rebellious decisions because she is rebellious herself. I think that this is a big part of the story because now there is more than one person in Julia and Winston's methods of thinking. I think an interesting part is how O'Brien being added to the group will conflict with Julia and Winston's relationship. Will there be times where Julia and Winston get mad at each other because of O'Brien? I think it might happen, but it might not mess up their relationship too much. I think the biggest question here is still: Should O'Brien be trusted?
